Executed
Milvin C. Garlitz
Melvin E. Garlitz was hanged at Cumberland, Maryland, in 1889, after being held in the jail there before his execution. According to an 1889 newspaper account, on the night before he was executed he thanked the sheriff, the sheriff's family and the guards for their treatment of him. He asked to see his little daughter and to be buried beside his wife, and his father-in-law refused those requests, the account said. He said he died without malice toward anyone, and accounts of the execution date differ between August and September 1889.
