Milton Haley
Officers brought Milton Haley back from Kentucky to Lincoln County, West Virginia, and held him in their custody. According to a Pittsburg newspaper report citing a Charleston gentleman, a group took him and Green McCoy from the officers at George Fry's house on Harts Creek at night and shot them both. An Evening Bulletin account, also citing a Charleston gentleman, placed the shooting at Fry's house on Hart's Creek, while a brief Osceola Times item said a mob took him from the jail at Hamilton, West Virginia, and lynched him. The accounts therefore differ on where he was being held when he died.
