Michelle Caddell
Michelle Caddell, 36, was remembered by her family as a fun-loving prankster, the loudest mom at her kids' sports games, and a mother who made a tough Christmas extra special. She was held at the Tulsa County Jail from late 2018 until November 2019, and her family says she repeatedly reported bleeding, pain and discharge, but was not sent for specialist screening until late in her detention. She was diagnosed with late-stage cervical cancer after her release and died in 2020, and her family, through a federal lawsuit, attributes her death to medical neglect in the jail. Turn Key, the company that provided medical care at the jail, denies violating her rights, and a negligence claim against the company was allowed to proceed on appeal.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). Her family's federal lawsuit says jail staff ignored her repeated reports of bleeding and pain and delayed specialist screening until late in her detention, so she was diagnosed with late-stage cervical cancer.
Reported by: family, through a federal lawsuit (family or their lawyers).
Lawsuit: Her family sued Turn Key over her medical care in the Tulsa County Jail, and a negligence claim against the company was allowed to proceed on appeal.
