Michael Tisius, 42, was executed by lethal injection of pentobarbital at a state prison in Bonne Terre, Missouri, on June 6, 2023, and was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. Advocates said he had been largely neglected as a child and was homeless by his early teens. In a final written statement he expressed remorse, wrote that he was sorry, and said he had tried to become a better man, with a spiritual adviser in the room. His lawyers had asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block the execution, and the court rejected that request the same afternoon.
