Michael Smith
Michael Smith, of Fairfield, was 55 years old. On November 30, 2019, officers at Ventress Correctional Facility injured him in what the Department of Corrections called a use-of-force incident. He was removed from life support and died at Dale Medical Center on December 5. Two officers were placed on leave, one later resigned, and the department sent its findings to a district attorney.
