Michael Milledge, 44, was a father of four who posted inspirational memes on Facebook in the weeks before his death. On April 15, 2018, he was held at Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, South Carolina, when men entered his cell and stabbed him during fighting that lasted more than seven hours and killed seven people. He was taken to a hospital in Florence, where he died about seven hours after the stabbing. The state Department of Corrections described the violence as altercations between people held in three housing units, and the State Law Enforcement Division investigated. Accounts differ on what started the attack, with some people held there saying it was a robbery and others pointing to money or drugs.
