Michael John Mendiola Jr.
Michael John Mendiola Jr., 45, died on October 9, 2022, at Guam Memorial Hospital while in the custody of the Guam Department of Corrections, after a medical emergency. His sister, Cora Mendiola, spoke publicly about her family's grief and frustration, and said her mother was also involved in the arrangements. The family says they were not told how to identify his body in person and could not get clear answers from the hospital about its protocol or a family viewing. The Department of Corrections says it holds legal custody of the body as next of kin, and the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority declined to discuss the death in detail.
