Michael Dick

died July 2008 · Potter County Jail, Potter County

Michael Dick died in July 2008 while held at the Potter County jail. His mother, Diane, said he did not have to die and prayed that the same thing would not happen to anyone else's son. Amarillo Police said he died of peritonitis caused by an ulcer, not blunt force trauma, but his family's lawyer, Chris Hoffman, disputes that reading of the autopsy, and a private medical examiner is reviewing the body. A Potter-Randall special crimes investigation is reviewing seven days of hallway video to determine whether jail employees contributed to his death or whether a pre-existing condition was responsible, and the family's lawyers say the evidence points to wrongdoing and have filed papers seeking sworn statements from the sheriff and police chief.
