Michael Diaz Garcia
Michael Diaz Garcia, 38, was held at the Cameron County Jail in Texas and, according to the Brownsville Police Department, was being taken out for medical attention when the events that led to his death began. Police said he was struck by gunfire from officers during a pursuit near San Benito and died at a hospital. The Brownsville Police Department and the Cameron County Sheriff's Office are conducting separate investigations, and the officers who fired have been placed on paid leave. The sheriff said the office is understaffed and that standard procedure calls for two officers during transport.
