Michael Crumbley
Michael F. Crumbley, 58, was held at the Tyrrell Prison Work Farm in Columbia, North Carolina, when he was assaulted by other people held there on June 9, 2023. He was taken to a hospital in Greenville and died there on June 14. His sister Carolyn Grose described him as funny and loyal, and his daughter Atlanta Crumbley has pressed for answers about the lack of guard rounds and video. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, and the State Bureau of Investigation and the Tyrrell County Sheriff's Department are still investigating, with investigators saying they have not identified a motive.
