Michael Benton Casey
Michael Benton Casey, 41, died on October 26, 2013, in a cell at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center in Arkansas, where he was held. According to his cellmate's statement to Arkansas State Police, Casey hanged himself with a bed sheet while the cellmate was present. The cellmate said he tried to talk Casey out of it, did not physically intervene, and called for help after pressing an emergency button and getting no response for about five minutes. Casey was pronounced dead at Sparks Regional Medical Center, and the prosecuting attorney, Dan Shue, found no criminal offense.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). Cellmate Jeromy Ryan Cristner told Arkansas State Police that Casey hanged himself with a bed sheet, and that he pressed an emergency button and got no response from staff for about five minutes.
