Executed
Medford Waters
Medford Waters was hanged on December 5, 1879, at the Cecil County poorhouse near Cherry Hill, Maryland. Sheriff William T. Boulden moved the execution there from the North Street Jail in Elkton because of large crowds, and a militia escort accompanied the procession. Newspapers reported a crowd of roughly 1,000 to 5,000 people. Afterward, the poorhouse board voted never again to allow executions at the county farm.
