McCamy

McCamy, a 21-year-old Black man, was held at the Whitfield County jail in Dalton, Georgia. Early on September 7, 1936, a mob of about 150 men stormed the jail, and Jailer John Pitt handed over his keys at pistol point, according to Sheriff J. T. Bryan. The mob took McCamy from the jail and hanged him. Sheriff Bryan said McCamy's body was found about four hours later on a roadside, beneath a tree.
