Max Gracia
Max Gracia, 22, was held at the Orange County Jail in Florida, and he died there on June 1, 2016. A review by the Orange County Health Services Department, as reported by WESH, attributed his death to septic shock from infected dog bite wounds. According to jail records, he could not get out of bed or take his medication the night before he died, and a nurse judged his condition to be faked or exaggerated. His mother, Willine Gracia, said jail staff allowed him to suffer and die, and officers disciplined him instead of getting him treatment.
Cause of death, as reported: Died from neglect by staff (disputed). The county health review and jail attributed his death to septic shock from infected dog bite wounds, but his mother says jail staff let him suffer and die, and jail records say a nurse judged his symptoms faked while officers disciplined him instead of getting treatment.
