Maurice Arrisgado Jr.
Maurice Arrisgado Jr. was held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center in Hawaii, and on March 1, 2019, he ran out of the intake center after a court appearance. A guard, who was armed, shot him in the back on nearby side streets in Kalihi, outside St. Anthony church. The Maui County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said it would not charge the guard, citing Hawaii law that allows deadly force against people escaping from a jail or prison. The Department of Public Safety said its internal investigation was still ongoing.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff. A guard shot Maurice Arrisgado Jr. in the back after he ran from the Oahu Community Correctional Center; the Maui County Prosecuting Attorney's Office declined to charge the guard under Hawaii law on escapes.
