Matthew Wilson, 30, died at a hospital after being held at the Seminole County jail in Sanford, Florida, in July 2024. The sheriff's office said he got into a fight with another person held there and struck his head on the ground, and that he reported severe head pain about two hours later, after which he was taken to the hospital. Deputies said surveillance footage and interviews indicated he was the primary aggressor and the other person acted in self-defense, and officials did not expect charges. One report gave a different facility name and a date of July 17 for the death, while others gave July 18.
