Matthew McCarthy, 48, died at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Lincoln County Jail in North Platte, Nebraska, on the morning of June 7, 2026, according to KNOP. He was taken by ambulance and then flown to the Colorado hospital in critical condition. The North Platte Police Department said the cause and manner of death have not been released, and its Criminal Investigation Division is investigating.
