Matthew Loflin
Matthew Loflin, 32, died in 2014 after being held at the Chatham County jail in Georgia. His family's federal lawsuit says he showed symptoms of congestive heart failure in early 2014, and that jail staff and the health care contractor refused repeated requests to send him to a hospital until April 7, 2014. He died at Memorial Health University Medical Center about two weeks later. The defendants deny wrongdoing, and the lawsuit's claims have not been decided. A 2022 report notes that his mother, Belinda L. Maley, planned to testify before a Senate subcommittee about his death.
