Matt Mortensen
Matt Mortensen, 34, died on September 7, 2023, while held at the Purgatory Correctional Facility near Hurricane, Utah. The Washington County Sheriff's Office said he was found in his cell in distress from an apparent suicide attempt, and that deputies, jail medical staff and Hurricane emergency responders tried to save him before he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m. The Washington County Critical Incident Task Force investigated the death. The sheriff's office's account of the circumstances is its own, and the cause and manner of death are still under review.
