Marvell Reasonover
Marvell Reasonover, 28, died on February 28 or March 2, 2023, after being found unresponsive in his cell in the maximum security division of Cook County Jail, where he was held, and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled his death a homicide caused by injuries from an assault, and the Illinois State Police and the Cook County Sheriff's Office opened investigations. His cellmate was removed from the cell, and one report said the cellmate was identified as the person responsible, though another said it was not immediately known whether he was suspected. A 2024 report said officers did not check on Reasonover for at least an hour before he was found, a claim that had not been resolved at the time of reporting.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody (neglect alleged). The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide from injuries in an assault by his cellmate, and officers did not check on him for at least an hour before he was found.
Reported by: Cook County medical examiner's office (medical examiner or coroner); Cook County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); Illinois State Police (outside investigators).
