Marshall Guillot
Marshall Guillot, 43, was held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Louisiana, where he died on June 5, 2019, after hanging himself from a grate in his cell. He was the father of five children, ranging in age from 4 to 23, and his family says they are struggling to cope and feel his death was senseless and preventable. His children's wrongful death lawsuit, brought through their attorney Tracey Powell, says he was placed in an isolation cell with a faulty grate and left unobserved, and that a high-priority mental health referral was repeatedly delayed. The sheriff's office did not immediately comment on the lawsuit, and the health care provider declined comment.
