Died in jail or a lockup
Marshal Clements
Marshal Clements was held in the jail at Saguache, Colorado, in 1885. A news brief in The Livingston Enterprise from October 1885 reported that masked men took him from the jail and hanged him. A later brief in the Watertown Republican gave his death as a hanging at Sagouche on December 3, 1885, so the two accounts disagree on the date and place of his death. The October account is the only one that connects his death to the jail.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A newspaper brief says masked men took him from the Saguache jail and hanged him.
