Marquan Nazarus Bryant
Marquan Bryant, 24, of Savannah, was held at the Chatham County Detention Center in Georgia when he was found unresponsive in his cell on January 22, 2025. Officers and EMTs treated him and took him to a hospital, where he was placed on life support and was pronounced dead the next day, January 23. Sheriff Richard Coleman said he believed the death was due to natural causes, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was asked to look into it, with the medical examiner to determine cause and manner. The GBI's investigation was still ongoing when the first report was published, and the official cause has not been confirmed.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). Sheriff Richard Coleman said the death was from natural causes, while a family member of another detainee alleges people in the facility heard calls for help and no one responded, which the sheriff disputes.
Reported by: Chatham County Sheriff Richard Coleman (the agency that held him). The only account of how this person died comes from the agency that held him.
