Mark Soliz, a 37-year-old Hispanic man, was executed by lethal injection by the State of Texas at the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville on September 10, 2019. His lawyers argued up to the end that a diagnosis of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder should bar his execution in the same way as intellectual disability, and state and federal courts rejected that claim. In his final words, he said he had been considering changing his life, that it had taken him 27 years to do so, and that he was at peace.
