Mark Melton, 35, was held at the Jefferson City Correctional Center in Jefferson City, Missouri. The Cole County Sheriff's Department said his cellmate beat him severely on August 19, 2014, and that he was taken to University Hospital in Columbia, where he died on August 24. The sheriff's department said an autopsy was performed and that results were expected weeks later.
