Mark Christeson wrote in his final statement that he loved his family with all his heart and was blessed to have them in his life. He mouthed 'I love you' to his brother and sister-in-law as he was put to death. Missouri Department of Corrections spokesperson Mike O'Connell said he was executed by lethal injection at the state prison in Bonne Terre on January 31, 2017, the state's first execution since May 2015. His appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court for a stay was refused, and Governor Eric Greitens declined to grant clemency.
