Mario Rushing
Mario Rushing, 46, was held at California State Prison, Sacramento, in Folsom, when staff saw him choking another incarcerated man on May 1, 2023. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said that verbal orders and less-lethal measures had no effect, and that an officer fired a rifle; Rushing was pronounced dead at an outside hospital at 7:07 p.m. A San Diego Union-Tribune report said the officer was placed on administrative leave under department policy. CDCR's Investigative Services Unit is investigating, and the Sacramento County Coroner will determine the official cause of death.
