Mario Ortega
Mario Ortega, 47, was held at California State Prison, Sacramento, in Folsom, when he died on October 6, 2026. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says another incarcerated man attacked him while the two were being escorted by golf cart, and that Ortega was taken to an outside medical facility, where a doctor pronounced him dead around 11:50 a.m. KCRA reports that officials say the other man had slipped his hand restraints during the escort, and the department is investigating the death as a homicide with the Office of the Inspector General notified.
