Marie Neba
Marie Neba was a 56-year-old mother of three who worried about who would care for her 9-year-old twin sons and 21-year-old daughter. She was held at the Carswell medical prison in North Texas while living with stage 4 cancer. Her requests for compassionate release were denied or ignored by the warden, and she contracted COVID-19 in July. She was hospitalized in Fort Worth and died on August 25, 2020, a day before her lawyer asked a judge to end her sentence, and federal prosecutors had opposed her release. Her daughter and sons said goodbye to her by video call before she died.
