Maria Landrum
Maria Landrum, 41, of Fort Smith, died on May 1, 2023, one day after she was placed in custody at the Sebastian County Detention Center. The Sebastian County Detention Center said she told staff she was not feeling well and asked to lie down in her cell, and that deputies stayed with her and contacted detention medical staff before she was taken by EMS to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Arkansas State Police are investigating, and the state crime lab will release the autopsy results; police say foul play is not suspected. The cause and manner of her death have not been determined.
