Margarita Murugia
Margarita Murugia was found hanging in her cell in the Security Housing Unit at the California Institution for Women in Corona, California, on July 30, 2014. Fellow prisoner April Harris wrote that Murugia had repeatedly asked to see her mother, who was reportedly dying of cancer, and that those requests were denied. Jane Dorotik, another woman held at the prison, described the circumstances of the death to Solitary Watch, which reported the account in November 2014. The prison declined to comment on her death, citing privacy laws.
