Marcus Sanchez
Marcus Sanchez Cooper, 22, died in December 2013 while held at the Clarke County Jail in Athens, Georgia. His mother, Tiffany Cooper, said in a wrongful death lawsuit that he complained of chest pain, shortness of breath and dizziness for two days and repeatedly asked to be taken to the jail infirmary, and that guards ignored those requests. He was found dead in his cell. An autopsy cited in the lawsuit reported possible arrhythmia and no foul play, and a coroner's inquest found no foul play and listed undetermined natural causes. In 2018 the county agreed to pay $35,000 to settle the case, and the sheriff said the payment was not an admission of negligence.
