Marcella Montelongo
Marcella Montelongo, 23, died on May 2, 2024, while held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. According to a county government statement, a medical emergency occurred, and MDC staff and a UNM Hospital medical team responded, with emergency responders arriving around 2:30 p.m. Marcella was pronounced dead at 2:41 p.m. The county said the death is under review by the facility's Office of Professional Standards and the Sheriff's Office, and the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator will determine the cause, which has not yet been established.
