Maral Gartney
Maral Gartney, 20, died on April 11, 2017, at Parchman, a Mississippi state prison, where he was held. He was one of three people who died there within a single week. His younger sister, Sarah Norwood, said he was ready to get out and that his death has been painful for the family. She said he seemed to despair near the end of his life and that his body was ready to leave prison. The Mississippi Department of Corrections said its investigations into the deaths are ongoing.
