Maples

Maples was taken from a jail in Alabama by a mob and killed, according to a 1906 editorial in the Springfield Weekly Republican. The editorial describes the killing as having happened some time earlier. A federal judge in Alabama claimed jurisdiction over the case, a view the U.S. Supreme Court did not uphold, the editorial reports.
