Manuel Polizzi
Politz was held in the parish prison in New Orleans when, on March 14, 1891, a mob broke in, took him from his cell and hanged him from a lamp post at Treme and Staan streets, according to The Climax. The Oskaloosa Herald reported that a crowd surrounded the prison, forced the doors and took men out to be lynched, and that the sheriff was not at the prison when the mob arrived. The coroner, Lemoniere, ruled that the men died at the hands of unknown parties. The two papers disagree on how many men were killed, with The Climax saying six and the Herald saying ten.
