Mallie Wilson was held in the jail at Greenfield, Tennessee. Early on Friday, September 3, 1915, a mob took him from the jail and made preparations to lynch him. The mob returned him to the jail after a man refused to act as hangman. Later, the mob reassembled and hanged him.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob took Mallie Wilson from the Greenfield, Tennessee jail and hanged him after returning him once before.
