Madhaiyan
Madhaiyan, 80, died on 25 May 2022 at Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital. Prison authorities had admitted him from Salem Central Prison on 1 May for treatment of several ailments, including diabetes, after he complained of severe chest pain. In the days before his death his breathlessness and acute chest pain worsened, and he died despite continuous treatment. Family members who came to collect his body said their efforts to secure his release had failed, and they called on the government to help free others they said were held in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka prisons.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness. He was admitted to hospital from the prison for chest pain and diabetes, and his breathlessness and chest pain worsened before he died despite continuous treatment.
