Maco Brown
Mac Brown, a Black man, was captured by a posse near Village Springs, Alabama, on the night of Friday, July 17, 1891. Early the next morning, the Staunton Spectator reports, a posse took him from officers who were taking him toward jail and shot him many times. The Wichita Daily Eagle reported that a mob took him from officers near the village of Spring and riddled him with bullets. Accounts differ on the location and on whether the officers resisted or gave up custody.
