Mack “Spanky” Brown
Mack “Spanky” Brown was held at San Quentin State Prison in California during the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak. He told a fellow writer at the prison that he had never been treated as poorly as he was then. In the first week of July 2020, that writer heard a 'man down' call for him and wrote, in an account published by the Prison Journalism Project in August 2021, that he did not return from quarantine.
