Luis Eliceo Otero died on May 14, 2023, in the booking area of the Taos County Adult Detention Center in Taos, New Mexico. The Taos County Sheriff's Office said detention staff found him suspended from a vent during a check around 4:15 p.m., and that he was pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m. The sheriff's office said it is treating the death as a suicide.
