Lope Elwin Tolosa
Lope Elwin Tolosa, 45, died on May 5, 2024, in a detoxification cell at the Sacramento County Jail, three days after he was taken into the jail. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said deputies found him unresponsive in the cell, began medical aid and called the fire department, and he was declared dead about 30 minutes later. The sheriff's office said it is investigating, and the coroner's office identified him. A later report noted that it was not the first death in that detox cell in recent months.
