Lewey Matoomealook
Lewey Matoomealook, 37, was in the custody of the Alaska Department of Corrections and was taken to Alaska Regional Hospital on September 22, 2022, where he died three days later, on September 25. The department said he was the 13th person to die in the state prison system that year and that next of kin had been notified. The department does not release causes of death and said foul play is not suspected. It said the Alaska State Troopers investigate every in-custody death and the State Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause, which remains pending in the reports reviewed.
