Leonard Carter
Leonard Carter had spent more than 24 years in a New York state prison and was a few weeks from his scheduled release when he died of COVID-19. His sister, Cynthia Carter-Young, said he walked into a hospital from the correctional facility and never left. She said his death took away the freedom he was about to receive.
