Leon Taylor
Leon Taylor, a Black man, was 56 when he was executed by lethal injection at the state prison in Bonne Terre, Missouri. A clemency petition said he had turned his life around in prison, becoming a devout Christian who helped other prisoners, and it described abuse he suffered as a child. His lawyers argued in court appeals that his death sentence was unfair, and the governor declined to grant clemency. The US Supreme Court rejected his final appeal, and he was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m. on November 19, 2014.
