Died in jail or a lockup
Leander Moody
Leander Moody was held in the jail at Seymour, Indiana. On the Thursday night of July 29, 1886, according to a telegram reprinted in the Daily Republican, a mob took him from the jail and lynched him. The Democratic Advocate's later report gives the same account, but neither paper says how the mob got into the jail or whether jail staff resisted or handed him over.
