Larry Thompson
Larry Thompson was held at the Madison County Detention Center in Mississippi in November 2018 and released on November 28. His family says he was nearly unconscious and could no longer use his legs when he got out, and that he had both legs amputated at a hospital before dying there on December 1. The family says witnesses told them jail employees beat him while he was held, and that he had been healthy when arrested. The sheriff's office denies that anyone beat him and says Thompson was ill and closely monitored by jail staff.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff (disputed; neglect alleged). The sheriff's office denies touching Larry Thompson and says he was ill and on medical watch, while his family says witnesses saw jail workers beat him and that he could no longer use his legs after release.
