Lachenais

died 1870 · Los Angeles

Lachenais was held in the Los Angeles jail in 1870. According to The Weekly Arizona Miner, a vigilance committee of about 200 men took him from the jail and hanged him in an old corral in front of a large crowd. The paper says the under sheriff resisted and the jailer refused to surrender the keys, so the committee hammered at the iron doors until they forced their way in. The paper also reports that authorities had been warned in advance that a committee would form if he were brought out for examination.
