Kyle M. Johnson
Kyle M. Johnson, 25, died on April 24, 2016, in his cell at the Erie County Prison, where he was being held before trial. Warden Kevin Sutter said he died by asphyxiation after using a torn strip of heavy material as a ligature, anchored to a robe, while out of view of the camera. The Erie County administration and the district attorney's office said they found no policy violations, criminal conduct or gross negligence by staff. The source of the ligature was not determined.
