Kirsten Simon
Kirsten Simon, a mother of two, ran a housecleaning business in Anchorage and was remembered by her mother, Cea Anderson, as an overcomer who had been clean for years and spoke to women in rehab about sobriety. She was held at the Anchorage jail and was due to transfer to Hiland Mountain Correctional Complex the day after she was booked on June 5, 2014. Guards found her dead in a booking-area cell on June 6, and her family and a cellmate describe her as very sick for hours before she died without receiving medical attention. The Alaska Department of Corrections is investigating, and its results have not been made public, so the cause and manner of her death remain unclear.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (neglect alleged). Her family and a cellmate say she was very sick for hours and got no medical attention before she died, while the Alaska Department of Corrections is investigating and has not released results.
